POTS Treatment in Wesley Chapel, FL
Find the Underlying Cause. Restore Balance. Reclaim Your Life.
If you’ve been living with dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, or a racing heartbeat every time you stand up — you may be dealing with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Whether you’ve been diagnosed already or are wondering if that may be what you are dealing with, you are in the right place. At Peak Brain & Body in Wesley Chapel, FL, we specialize in identifying the neurological and physiological root causes of POTS — and helping you retrain your brain and body for lasting recovery.
What Is POTS?
POTS is a form of dysautonomia — a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system, which controls involuntary functions like heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion. When the brain and body aren’t communicating properly, standing up or even minor stressors can cause symptoms like:
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Rapid heartbeat or palpitations
- Fatigue and brain fog
- Shortness of breath
- Nausea or digestive issues
- Feeling anxious or “wired but tired”
POTS is diagnosed when individuals have persistent symptoms for 3-6 months with no other identifiable causes. Most individuals are diagnosed from their primary care, cardiologist, or neurologist. No matter where the diagnosis is from, there is little recommendations for treatment beyond increasing salt intake, drinking more water, compression stockings, and trying to build up exercise tolerance. When this doesn’t work sufficiently, many people are told that “it’s just anxiety” or “something you’ll have to live with,” the truth is — POTS has identifiable causes that can be treated if you know where to look.
Our Unique Approach to POTS Treatment
If you are like our average patient, then you’ve struggled for months if not years. You’ve been put on a variety of medications or have tried a lot of things out of desperation to see minimal to no results. Most clinics only manage symptoms. At Peak Brain & Body, we dig deeper — evaluating the brain, body, and autonomic nervous system as one connected system.
We use advanced diagnostic testing to uncover why your nervous system is dysregulated:
- Video Oculography (VOG): The visual system is a window into the health of the brain. We find deficits in testing in over 75% of POTS patients and this is an essential part that must be treated if it’s off. This testing evaluates numerous parts of the brain including brainstem and cerebellar function through eye movement patterns
- Computerized Balance Posturography: Feeling dizzy or off balance has many potential causes from brain health to cardiovascular issues. This test measures how your brain integrates sensory input for posture and stability.
- Quantitative EEG (qEEG) Brain Mapping: Identifies areas of overactivity or underactivity affecting autonomic control
- Comprehensive Blood & Lab Testing: Evaluates inflammation, gut health, nutrient deficiencies, immune triggers, and hormonal imbalances. We don’t have standard testing we do on everyone as we select the testing that has the greatest likelihood of providing answers.
This level of testing allows us to identify the specific circuits and systems that are malfunctioning — and then create a tailored plan to retrain them. We find most individuals have more than one area that’s off. By gathering a significant amount of data that allows for the most complete plan to be created.
Personalized POTS Treatment Plans
No two cases of POTS are alike. That’s why every plan at Peak Brain & Body is personalized based on your testing results. Your treatment plan may include:
- Autonomic Retraining: Exercises to strengthen brain–body communication and improve autonomic regulation
- Vestibular & Balance Therapy: To reduce dizziness and improve tolerance to movement and standing
- Vision Therapy: Visual system is routinely impacted and leads to issues being in cars, stores, and church. Visual deficits identified with advanced testing will be retrained allowing the brain to function more appropriately
- Low-Level Laser Therapy (Photobiomodulation): To enhance mitochondrial function and reduce inflammation
- Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy (TMS Therapy): To help balance brain function for those with depression and/or anxiety
- Targeted Nutritional & Functional Medicine Protocols: The health of the body impacts the health of the autonomic nervous system. Using in-depth and specialized labs the goal is to identify factors that contribute to the underlying process. By addressing blood sugar, hormones, infections, and inflammation that drive dysautonomia this is a crucial component of a comprehensive care plan.
- Lifestyle & Breathing Interventions: To regulate the vagus nerve and promote calm, steady autonomic function
