Integrated Brain & Body Care in Wesley Chapel, serving the greater Tampa area
At Peak Brain and Body, many people are genuinely surprised to learn that their symptoms may be coming from how their eyes and brain are working together especially when they’ve been told their eye exams were “normal.”
They can see clearly.
Their prescription hasn’t changed.
And yet reading is exhausting, screens trigger symptoms, and their brain never quite feels settled.
That’s why we don’t assume eye function is normal just because someone can read an eye chart. We test and measure how the brain controls eye movement, because dysfunction here is common – and frequently missed.
Oculomotor dysfunction is rarely tested unless someone presents with very specific symptoms or a narrowly defined neurological diagnosis.
As a result, many people who would benefit from oculomotor testing:
Not because it wouldn’t help but because no one ever thought to check.
This leads to prolonged frustration, confusion, and unnecessary suffering that is often entirely preventable once the problem is properly identified.
This oculomotor testing is especially valuable for individuals who:
Many were once sharp, driven, and high-functioning until symptoms quietly began to erode their clarity, stamina, and confidence.
Standard eye exams focus on:
They do not evaluate how the brain:
These are neurological functions and without specialized oculomotor testing, they go unmeasured.
We are one of a small number of clinics in the United States using advanced video oculography to objectively measure eye movements in real time.
This allows us to:
This level of precision provides answers most clinics simply cannot offer.
Oculomotor issues commonly contribute to:
Many people are surprised to learn that their non-visual symptoms are being driven by visual processing dysfunction.
Testing is only the starting point.
We:
If visual tasks worsen your symptoms and oculomotor eye movement testing has never been done, it doesn’t mean nothing can help.
It often means the right thing was never evaluated.
Our goal is to measure what others overlook, explain what’s happening, and help prevent unnecessary frustration and prolonged suffering.
No.
A standard eye exam evaluates visual clarity, eye health, and whether you need glasses or contacts. It does not assess how your brain controls eye movement, tracking, coordination, or visual processing. Oculomotor dysfunction can exist even when vision is 20/20.
In many cases, yes.
When identified correctly, oculomotor dysfunction often responds well to targeted, individualized therapy. The key is accurately measuring the problem first and addressing it as part of the larger neurological system not in isolation.
In most healthcare settings, eye movement testing is only considered when very specific red flags are present. Many providers are not trained in neurological eye movement assessment or do not have access to objective tools like video oculography.
Yes.
For many people, oculomotor dysfunction is a missing piece that explains why symptoms persist despite normal imaging, normal eye exams, and prior treatments that never fully worked.
